Have you lost a pet? If you are looking for your lost pet, do NOT solely rely on this website. This website is simply one tool to assist you in the search for your lost pet. For example, photos on our website may not appear to be your animal and the description we have provided for an animal may not match your own. For these reasons, only use this website as one tool in searching for your lost pet.
While the list of animals is refreshed every two hours, we strongly urge you to check our shelter in person, particularly for your own peace of mind. It is the owner's responsibility to come in person and look through our shelter.
- Come to the shelter each day that we are open: Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
- Make sure to check in at the front counter, and a staff member or volunteer will guide you through the process of looking for your lost pet.
Keep in mind that lost animals may travel away from your home before being brought to a shelter by an animal services officer or citizen. Therefore, you should also check with other local animal service agencies in the area to search for your lost pet.
We also encourage you to check online resources such as Nextdoor, Craigslist and Facebook groups such as Lost and Found Pets 209. You can post lost or found animals here at www.lostmykitty.com or www.lostmydoggie.com
The shelter will hold onto a stray animal for a minimum of 72 hours in order to give an owner the opportunity to look for their lost pet. An animal may be humanely euthanized if the animal is irremediably suffering from a medical condition or injury. Once the holding period has ended, an animal may be evaluated and placed for adoption if the animal passes the evaluation.
If an animal is not placed for adoption, the animal may be sent to a rescue group or be transferred to another shelter. However, if an animal does not pass the evaluation, the animal may be humanely euthanized.

Pets Found by the Public
Have you found a pet? If you surrender a stray animal at the Shelter, we will only accept stray animals that are found within the City of Stockton and the unincorporated area of San Joaquin County.
- If you do not want to surrender the found animal to the Shelter, you may use online resources such as Nextdoor, Craiglist and Facebook Groups such as Lost and Found Pets 209.
- You may also make an online report at www.lostmykitty.com or www.lostmydoggie.com, and the information will be forwarded to the Stockton Animal Shelter.
