Volunteer
The Stockton Animal Shelter is the largest open-admission animal shelter in the city of Stockton and San Joaquin County. The animals in our care depend on our staff to improve their lives while in our care. Animals in our care also depend on volunteers who generously dedicate thousands of volunteer hours each year to improve their lives.
There are many rewarding volunteer opportunities available at the Stockton Animal Shelter. Below are just a few:
-
Foster kittens & puppies
-
Doggie day Trip
-
Foster animals with medical needs
-
Socializing animals
-
Clean and care for animals while in the shelter
-
Assist potential adopters with adoption at the shelter and at off-site adoption events
-
Laundry might seem like a small task, but it's an important one. With an annual intake of 11,000 animals, we have a lot of laundry.

Join our Doggie Day Trip program!
Take a shelter pup on an unforgettable adventure! The Doggie Day Trip program allows you to take a dog out for the day, whether it be on a fun nature adventure, a trip to a local coffee shop, or for some serious snuggle time at home. Giving a shelter dog a break from shelter life helps reduce anxiety and stress while increasing socialization and happiness. It also allows us to get to know the dog outside of the shelter environment so we can better match them with an adoptive family!
Get started today by filling out a volunteer application, then send it to info@apl209.org.
