Department Information

In 2018, the population of the City of Stockton was over 315,592 and covered 65 square miles.

As the City has grown, the size of the Stockton Police Department and its mission have also grown.

Police History

The Stockton Police Department was founded August 14, 1850, when the city covered about 4.3 square miles. 

With a San Joaquin County population of 3,647, Stockton was protected by 17 officers and a Chief of Police.
